A licensed healthcare professional who practices osteopathic medicine, a system of medicine emphasizing the interconnectedness of the body's systems and the body's ability to heal itself. Osteopaths, or Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs), are fully licensed physicians who can prescribe medication and perform surgery. Health insurance policies typically cover services provided by osteopaths in the same manner as those provided by medical doctors (MDs).
