Peril of the sea

A cause of loss in marine insurance referring to extraordinary occurrences at sea, such as storms, waves, collisions, or stranding, that are unavoidable by human skill and prudence. It covers losses directly resulting from the inherent dangers of maritime navigation, not from ordinary wear and tear or negligence. This concept is distinct from perils on the sea, which include losses from human actions like piracy.
