Premium reserve

An amount set aside by an insurer from premiums received to cover future liabilities and claims that may arise during the unexpired portion of the policy period. This reserve accounts for the portion of premiums collected for coverage not yet provided. It is a statutory requirement for solvency and financial reporting.
