Expense reserve

An amount set aside by an insurer to cover future operating costs associated with policies already in force, but for which the expenses have not yet been incurred or paid. This reserve accounts for administrative costs, commissions, and other overhead related to servicing existing policies. It is a liability on the insurer's balance sheet, reflecting future obligations.
