Resident agent

An insurance agent whose home state is the state that issued the license, because the agent resides or has a principal place of business there. The resident license is the base for nonresident licenses in other states, which most states grant on the strength of the home license and a fee. Resident status also determines which state's continuing education requirements the agent follows.
