Writ

A formal written order issued by a court or other legal authority that directs a person or entity to perform or cease performing a specific action. In the context of liability and claims, writs initiate legal proceedings, compel the appearance of parties, or enforce a judgment. Examples include a writ of summons, which commences a lawsuit, or a writ of execution, which authorizes the seizure of assets to satisfy a debt.
