Coronagraph

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004708

A specialized telescope designed to observe the faint corona of the sun by blocking out the direct light from the solar disk. This instrument uses an occulting disk to create an artificial eclipse, allowing the study of solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and other solar phenomena. Ground-based coronagraphs are typically used during total solar eclipses, while space-based versions provide continuous observations.
