Fujiwhara effect
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001108
The interaction between two nearby tropical cyclones, where they orbit a common center. This interaction can lead to the merging of the two systems, a change in their tracks, or one system absorbing the other. The effect is most pronounced when the cyclones are of similar strength and within a few hundred kilometers of each other.
A binary interaction where tropical cyclones within a certain distance (300-750 nm depending on the sizes of the cyclones) of each other begin to rotate about a
common midpoint.
