Ice plain

A relatively flat and extensive area of sea ice, often formed by the consolidation of smaller floes or by the freezing of a calm body of water. These plains can cover vast expanses of the polar oceans, providing a stable surface for travel or wildlife. They are distinct from ice shelves, which are attached to land.
