Inflow
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006539
The flow of air into a weather system, storm, or specific region of the atmosphere. In a thunderstorm, inflow is the organized stream of warm, moist air feeding the updraft at the storm's base, providing the energy for its development and maintenance. The strength and location of the inflow, particularly the rear-flank downdraft inflow, are key factors in the formation of tornadoes in supercells.
