Snow roller
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008989
A rare meteorological phenomenon where cylindrical masses of snow are formed by wind. These rollers occur when a layer of wet, cohesive snow is present on the ground, and strong winds, often accompanied by a slight downhill slope, cause small pieces of snow to detach and roll, accumulating more snow as they move. They can range in size from a few centimeters to over a meter in diameter.
