Marginal well

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002278

A well that produces so little oil or gas that revenue barely covers its operating cost, which makes it very sensitive to commodity prices and expenses. In the United States, oil wells producing about 15 barrels per day or less, and gas wells producing roughly 60,000 to 90,000 cubic feet per day or less, are generally treated as marginal or stripper wells; the exact threshold depends on the agency and tax rule.
