Cutaneous human papillomavirus

A group of human papillomaviruses (HPV) that infect the cells on the surface of the skin and cause skin warts, usually on the hands and feet. These are considered common warts and are not transmitted sexually. Cutaneous human papillomavirus infections usually spread by casual skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or by sharing an item, such as a towel, with that person. Cutaneous human papillomaviruses do not cause genital warts or cancer. Also called cutaneous HPV.
