Fruquintinib

Term · Oncology and biomedicine · MLC-T-ONC-003351

  1. A drug used to treat adults with colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and has already been treated with other anticancer therapy. It is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Fruquintinib blocks a protein called VEGFR, which may prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow and may kill cancer cells. It is a type of antiangiogenesis agent and a type of kinase inhibitor. Also called Fruzaqla.

  2. An orally available, small molecule inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs), with potential anti-angiogenic and antineoplastic activities. Upon oral administration, fruquintinib inhibits VEGF-induced phosphorylation of VEGFRs 1, 2, and 3 which may result in the inhibition of migration, proliferation and survival of endothelial cells, microvessel formation, the inhibition of tumor cell proliferation, and tumor cell death. Expression of VEGFRs may be upregulated in a variety of tumor cell types.
