NPV

  1. The likelihood that a person who has a negative test result indeed does not have the disease, condition, biomarker, or mutation (change) in the gene being tested. The NPV is a way of measuring how accurate a specific test is. Also called negative predictive value.

  2. The likelihood that an individual with a negative test result is truly unaffected and/or does not have the particular gene mutation in question. Also called negative predictive value.
