An uncompressed audio file format, the Audio Interchange File Format, developed by Apple Inc. for storing high-quality digital audio data. It preserves the original sound recording without lossy compression, resulting in large file sizes compared to formats like MP3. An AIFF file is structured into data blocks called chunks, including a Common Chunk with parameters like sample rate and bit depth, and a Sound Data Chunk containing the actual audio samples.
