Archive

The process of collecting multiple data files and consolidating them into a single file for long-term retention, backup, or transfer. This resulting file, also called an archive, often uses compression to reduce its overall size, saving storage space and network bandwidth. Common archive formats include ZIP, TAR (Tape Archive), and RAR, each with its own set of features and compression algorithms.
