A cross-platform and language-independent application programming interface for treating an HTML or XML document as a tree structure. In the Document Object Model, each node is an object representing a part of the document, such as an element, attribute, or text. The W3C DOM standard is separated into different levels (e.g., Level 1, 2, 3) and modules, each adding new capabilities.
