A graphical user interface (GUI) action where a user selects a virtual object by clicking and holding down a mouse button or other pointing device. The user then moves the pointer to a new location and releases the button to drop the object, triggering an action like moving, copying, or linking. This interaction model was first demonstrated by Xerox PARC and later popularized by the Apple Macintosh operating system.
