Hypertext

A system of organizing and presenting information where text is not constrained to be linear but contains electronic links to other related text. Readers can navigate this non-sequential web of information by selecting these links, called hyperlinks, to access connected content immediately. The concept predates the World Wide Web, with early systems like HyperCard demonstrating its structure, but it is most widely implemented using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
