Reserved words or identifiers within a programming language that have a predefined meaning and cannot be used as variable names or other user-defined identifiers. These words form the basic syntax and structure of the language, defining operations, control flow, and data types. For example, in the C language, 'if', 'else', 'while', and 'int' are keywords, and the C99 standard specifies 37 of them.
