Ransomware

A type of malicious software that blocks access to a victim's data or computer system until a sum of money is paid. The malware encrypts files on the system, making them inaccessible, and then displays a message demanding a ransom payment, often in cryptocurrency, for the decryption key. Some variants threaten to publish the victim's data if the ransom is not paid.
