Cryptocurrency

A digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security and operates independently of a central bank. Transactions are recorded on a distributed ledger, typically a blockchain, which maintains a decentralized and immutable record of all exchanges. Bitcoin, launched in 2009, was the first decentralized cryptocurrency.
