Datagram

A self-contained, independent unit of data that carries sufficient information to be routed from a source to a destination without relying on prior exchanges between the source and destination. It is a fundamental transfer unit in packet-switched networks, where each datagram is treated independently. The Internet Protocol (IP) is a common example of a datagram-based protocol.
