Packet

A small block of data transmitted over a network, forming the fundamental unit of communication in packet-switched networks. Each packet contains not only a segment of the data being sent but also control information, such as source and destination addresses, for proper routing. The maximum size of a packet is defined by the network protocol, such as the Ethernet frame size of 1500 bytes.
