Internet Protocol, the primary protocol in the Internet protocol suite for transmitting datagrams across network boundaries. It defines the addressing scheme and the method for encapsulating data into packets for transmission. IP is responsible for routing packets from the source host to the destination host solely based on their IP addresses.
