A networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks, directing traffic based on IP addresses. It connects multiple networks, such as a local area network (LAN) and the internet, and determines the most efficient path for data to travel. Routers operate at Layer 3 (the network layer) of the OSI model and use routing tables to make forwarding decisions.
