A network device that forwards data packets between different computer networks, directing traffic based on the destination IP address within each packet. In industrial settings, routers connect local networks of programmable logic controllers, sensors, and human-machine interfaces to each other or to a wider enterprise network. Industrial-grade routers are hardened to withstand harsh environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, vibration, and electrical noise found on a factory floor.
