Rosetta

An emulation layer developed by Apple that allows software compiled for one processor architecture to run on a different architecture. It translates instructions from the original architecture into instructions compatible with the host processor. The first version allowed PowerPC applications to run on Intel-based Macs, while Rosetta 2 supports Intel applications on Apple Silicon Macs.
