Rootkit

A collection of malicious software tools designed to gain unauthorized, high-level administrative access (root access) to a computer or network, while actively hiding its presence from administrators and security software. By modifying core system components, a rootkit can conceal files, processes, and network connections from standard detection methods. Kernel-mode rootkits operate at the most privileged level of the operating system.
