An architectural approach to networking that decouples the network control plane from the data forwarding plane, centralizing network management and enabling programmatic configuration. Software-Defined Networking allows administrators to manage network services through high-level abstractions, rather than configuring individual network devices. OpenFlow is a common protocol used to implement SDN.
