A standardized networking protocol that automates the assignment of IP addresses and other network configuration settings to devices on a network. A central server running the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol listens for requests from new devices and allocates an available IP address from a predefined pool for a specific lease period. This eliminates the need for manual configuration of each device's network settings by an administrator.
