Preboot eXecution Environment, a standardized client-server interface that allows a computer to boot from a network rather than a local hard drive or optical disc. It enables operating systems or other software to be loaded onto diskless workstations or for mass deployment of operating systems. PXE relies on DHCP and TFTP protocols.
