The process of gaining administrative or superuser access to an Android operating system, allowing users to modify software code, install custom firmware, and bypass manufacturer restrictions. This grants elevated privileges beyond those typically available to a standard user account. Rooting can void device warranties and carries risks of bricking the device if performed incorrectly.
