Platform

The underlying hardware architecture and software framework on which applications can be run. A platform consists of an operating system, a computer architecture, or a web browser and its associated application programming interfaces. For example, software developed for the Windows platform will not run on macOS without modification or a compatibility layer, as they are distinct operating environments.
