1. An underlying computer system on which application programs can run. For example, a Dell computer running Windows XP runs on a Windows platform. An iMac computer runs on the Macintosh platform.
2. Any level or nearly level surface, ranging in size from a terrace or bench to a plateau defined by slopes around its edges.
