A stable, relatively flat area of the continental crust that has remained tectonically undisturbed for long periods, often covered by a thin veneer of sedimentary rocks. These stable regions can host extensive carbonate or clastic sedimentary sequences that form prolific hydrocarbon reservoirs. The Arabian Platform is a prime example.
