Craton

A large, stable, and ancient part of the continental lithosphere that has remained relatively undeformed for a long period, often billions of years. Cratons form the stable core of continents and are characterized by thick crust and low heat flow. They can host sedimentary basins with hydrocarbon potential along their margins or within their interior.
