Active margin
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000054
A continental margin that coincides with a tectonic plate boundary, characterized by frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. These margins are zones of subduction or transform faulting, leading to complex geological structures like accretionary prisms and forearc basins. In contrast to passive margins, active margins have narrow continental shelves and steep continental slopes.
