Text that includes formatting information in addition to the characters themselves, such as font styles, sizes, colors, and structural elements like lists or tables. Unlike plain text, which only contains character data, rich text embeds styling instructions within the document, allowing for more expressive and visually organized content. The Rich Text Format (RTF), with the .rtf file extension, is a cross-platform document standard developed by Microsoft for encoding formatted text and graphics.
