Sector

A subdivision of a track on a magnetic disk or optical disc, representing the smallest physical storage unit that can be addressed by the disk controller. Data is read from and written to storage devices in these fixed-size blocks. A standard sector size for hard drives is 512 bytes, though some modern drives use 4096-byte sectors.
