Hard disk

A non-volatile storage device that stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Data is accessed randomly, allowing individual blocks of data to be retrieved directly. Hard disks are used for storing operating systems, applications, and user files, with capacities ranging from gigabytes to terabytes.
