Sampling error

Term · Economic statistics · MLC-T-ECS-001732

  1. Error in estimation arising from using a sample rather than the full population.

Note: Sampling error can result even when no mistakes of any kind are made. To reduce the error, increase the sample size.

  2. Errors that occur because only part of the population is directly contacted. With any sample, differences are likely to exist between the characteristics of the sampled population and the larger group from which the sample was chosen.
