Sour gas
Term · Energy · MLC-T-ENE-002137
Natural gas that contains measurable amounts of acidic contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is colorless and flammable and smells like rotten eggs. Because sour gas contains H2S, exposure in excess of 1000 ppm is lethal over any duration. Sour gas is also commonly produced by reacting hydrogen gas with sulfur naturally found in petroleum refinery liquids to remove and recover elemental sulfur.
