Airborne Emissions

Term · Environment · MLC-T-ENV-000928

1. Releases of gases to the atmosphere (e.g., the release of carbon dioxide during fuel combustion). Emissions can be either intended or unintended releases.

2. A discharge of pollutants into the environment, partially or completely treated or in its natural state. Generally used in regard to discharges into the air.

3. Anthropogenic releases of gases to the atmosphere. In the context of global climate change, they consist of radiatively important greenhouse gases (e.g., the release of carbon dioxide during fuel combustion).

4. Pollution released or discharged into the air from natural or man-made sources, including vehicles, smokestacks and the spraying of aerosols.
