1. The release or discharge of a substance into the environment. Generally refers to the release of gases or particulates into the air.

2. A discharge of pollutants into the environment, partially or completely treated or in its natural state. Generally used in regard to discharges into the air.

3. Pollution discharged into the atmosphere from smokestacks, other vents, and surface areas of commercial or industrial facilities; from residential chimneys; and from motor vehicle, locomotive, or aircraft exhausts.

4. Pollution discharge from a source.

6. Direct or indirect release into the atmosphere of any air pollutant, or air pollutants released into the atmosphere.
