1. Wastewater discharged from a point source, such as a pipe.
2. Wastewater, treated or untreated, that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial point source, such as a pipe. Generally refers to wastes discharged into surface waters.
3. Municipal sewage or industrial liquid waste (untreated, partially treated, or completely treated) that flows out of a treatment plant, septic system, pipe, etc.
4. A discharge of pollutants into the environment, partially or completely treated or in its natural state. Generally used in regard to discharges into waters.
5. (EF-loo-ent) Water or some other liquid-raw, partially or completely treated-flowing from a reservoir, basin, treatment process or treatment plant.
6. Discharge of liquid waste from a wastewater treatment facility, factory or industry to a local waterbody.
7. Wastewater, treated or untreated, that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall.
8. Wastewater--treated or untreated--that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall. This term generally refers to wastes discharged into surface waters.
9. Wastewater--treated or untreated--that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall. Generally refers to wastes discharged into surface waters.
10. Wastewater, either treated or untreated, that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall. Generally refers to wastes or waters containing pollutants discharged into surface waters.
11. Sewage, water, or other liquid, partially or completely treated or in its natural state, flowing out of a septic tank, subsurface wastewater infiltration system, aerobic treatment unit, or other treatment system or system component.
12. Waste material being discharged into the environment, either treated or untreated.
13. Waste material being discharged into the environment, either treated or untreated. Effluent generally is used to describe water discharges to the environment, although it can refer to stack emissions or other material flowing into the environment.
14. The discharge from an anaerobic digester or other manure stabilization process.
15. Dredged material or fill material, including return flow from confined sites.
16. The liquid or gas discharged after processing activities, usually containing residues from such use. Also discharge from a chemical reactor.
17. Waste material being discharged into the environment, either treated or untreated. Effluent generally is used to describe water discharges to the environment, although it can refer to stack emissions or other material flowing into the environment. [EPA 1992]
18. Wastewater - treated or untreated - that flows out of a treatment plant, sewer, or industrial outfall. Generally refers to wastes discharged into surface waters. [EPA 2005b]
19. Wastewater discharged from a point source, such as a pipe. [EPA 2005e]
20. Something that flows out, especially a liquid or gaseous waste stream.
21. Treated or untreated liquid waste material that is discharged into the environment from a point source, such as a wastewater treatment plant or an industrial facility. [NCSU 1997]
22. Waste material discharged into the environment, treated or untreated. Generally refers to water pollution. [SRA 2004]
23. Liquid waste or sewage discharged into a water of the United States.
24. Effluent is liquid waste or sewage discharged into a river or the sea, treated or untreated, originating from treatment plants, sewers, or industrial outfalls.
25. Partially or fully processed liquid flowing out of a sewage treatment component or device.
