1. A fold that is convex upward or had such an attitude at some stage of development. In simple anticlines the beds are oppositely inclined, whereas in more complex types the limbs may dip in the same direction. Some anticlines are of such complicated form that no simple definition can be given..
2. Anticlines may also be defined as folds with older rocks toward the center of curvature, providing the structural history has not been unusually complex.
