1. An extensive, subaqueous, blanket-like deposit of alluvial, unconsolidated material that is derived from an identifiable source and deposited at the base of a mountain or seamount.
2. Erosion protection placed on the streambed in an area of high flow velocity, such as downstream from a culvert.
