1. Groundwater discharge to the stream; the flow not accounted for by storm runoff.

2. The portion of river flow that comes from groundwater, rather than runoff.

3. Sustained flow of a stream in the absence of direct runoff. It includes natural and human-induced streamflows. Natural base flow is sustained largely by groundwater discharges.
